Find out what Active Communities have been up to this month

Welcome to the October edition of our Active Communities update for Worcester.

Hosting the City of Worcester Sport Awards 2019, in addition to opening our 2nd Worcester Sporting Grant round, September has been a fantastic month for the Active Communities team!

Both initiatives are a great way for us to recognise local sporting talent; supporting clubs, athletes, coaches and volunteers. The Worcester Sporting Grant round is still open and wont close until the 31st October, so we encourage all eligible Clubs and Athletes to make an application.

With the summer activities seeming like a distant memory now, the team have gone straight back into our term time programme, working alongside schools to provide sports activities for children.

We have a number of new and upcoming initiatives starting in October that I am excited to tell you more about, later in the newsletter.

100th Walking Football Session
We encourage all people in Worcester, regardless of ability to age well. As a nation we have an ageing population- Whilst this is a positive outcome from improved health care and standards of living, our ageing populations are also costing our services millions of pounds due to inactivity.

Of the 102,338 people living in Worcester, just over a third (33.92%) of people are aged over 50, which totals 34,712 people. We provide a wide range of programmes to encourage active ageing in Worcester including walking netball, walking football and maintaining movement exercise classes.

We have a range of fun and low intensity new activity sessions for both men and women to keep you active in 2018.

The sessions are ideal for older aged people or anyone who has been away from physical activity for a long time and wants to get active again.
