The Active Communities team delivered a wide range of opportunities for young people in the rural areas of North Northamptonshire to become active over the summer holidays. After a 2 year break, our successful Turn Up and Play programme returned, supporting activity in 9 rural locations across North Northamptonshire. The 2 hour sessions featured a mixture of sport and art based activities and received excellent support across the delivery period. In addition to our TUPs programmes,the team delivered 4 Xplorer events in Thrapston, Irthlingborough, Rushden and Oundle, with over 100 adults and young people taking part in total. The summer holiday period also saw the return of the Outdoor Gym programme, which ran for a period of 8 weeks from the start of August until the end of September. This year's programme included a couple of new locations, in Glapthorn and Nassington, with the programme also returning to Thrapston and Irthlingborough. 

 

Freedom Leisure, in partnership with Northamptonshire Sport, Northampton Town In The Community and North Northamptonshire Council, have delivered a series of 12 week programmes in conjunction with Northamptonshire MIND. The programmes, including activities such as Clubbercise, Angling and Nordic Walking, have worked alongside residents who are currently suffering from a mental health condition. The programme, which has engaged with a significant number of individuals since it began, is due to hold a celebration event at the Pemberton Centre in Rushden on Sunday 7th November.

 

The past 18 months have been an extremely challenging year for the sport and leisure sector as a whole. During July and August, leisure centres across the country had restrictions lifted which allowed our centre's to offer much loved favourites such as floats, flume and familiar studios. In North Northamptonshire, this has translated into swim school attendances of over 18,577. A total of 30,349 visits have been made at The Nene Centre, 17,286 at The Pemberton Centre and 40,913 visits at Splash Leisure Pool.
